1. Who is responsible for your data?
MicroRoute is provided by Astron Tech B.V., established in the Netherlands. Astron Tech B.V. is the data controller for personal data processed directly by MicroRoute.
2. Data MicroRoute processes
Location and route requests
With your permission, MicroRoute processes your device's precise location, course, and speed to show your position, calculate routes, provide turn-by-turn guidance, detect off-route travel, display the applicable road speed, and create a road report when you request one.
Route waypoints are sent to our self-hosted GraphHopper routing service to calculate a route. We do not use these requests to build a personal driving history. Standard infrastructure security logs may temporarily contain technical request information.
Search, maps, and route display
MicroRoute uses Mapbox for map rendering, place search, traffic display, and limited route-display alignment. Search text, selected places, map requests, and route coordinates may therefore be sent to Mapbox. Mapbox processes this data under its own privacy policy.
Data stored locally on your device
- Saved places and recent searches
- App preferences, such as language, units, map style, and voice settings
- Road reports, including location, heading, category, timestamp, and any note you enter
- Crash and error diagnostics generated by the app
Road reports and diagnostic logs are not automatically uploaded. You control whether to export and share them.
Support communications
If you contact us, we process the information you provide, such as your email address, message, screenshots, and any diagnostic export you attach, to answer your request.
3. What we do not do
MicroRoute does not require an account. We do not sell personal data, use it for targeted advertising, or include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not automatically upload your saved places, recent searches, road reports, or app diagnostic logs.
4. Legal bases
Where the GDPR applies, we process data as needed to provide the navigation service you request, based on your device permission for precise location, and for our legitimate interests in securing and supporting the service. You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
5. Service providers and transfers
We use a self-hosted GraphHopper service for route calculation and Mapbox for maps, search, traffic, and route display. Mapbox may process data outside the European Economic Area using the safeguards described in its privacy documentation.
6. Storage and retention
Local app data remains on your device until you clear it in MicroRoute, remove it manually, or delete the app. Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request and meet legal obligations. Technical server logs are retained only as needed for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please avoid including unnecessary personal information in road-report notes or support messages.
8. Children
MicroRoute is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority. Because most MicroRoute data stays on your device, you can manage much of it directly by clearing data in the app or deleting the app.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when MicroRoute changes. We will update the date above and communicate material changes where appropriate.
